Li kui ,nicknamed Black Whirlwind,is a popular figure among 108 heroes of the Mount Liang in folklore.Although he was fiery-tempered and a tearaway,he was respected for his unwavering beliefs and filial piety.

One night, he , along with another hero Yan Qing,bedded down at a farmhouse of an old couple.However , her could’t sleep because he heard someone wad weeping and sobbing.Tracing the sound,he found the old couple.On hearing that their daughter had been seized by Song Jiang,head of 108 heroes of the Mount Liang,he was furious.He returned to the Mount Liang overnight,and went directly to the Hall of Faith and Loyalty.With his giant axes, he first knocked down the yellow flag in front of the Hall ,which was inscribed with”To Achieve Justice for Heaven ”,their belief.And then he rushed into the hall and went for Song Jiang.Other generals hurrily stopped him,and asked him why.Li Kui elaborated the evil deed done by “Song Jiang”, which Song Jiang firmly denied.Seeing that Li Kui did not believe him,Song asked him to search his house.But Li Kui said it would be impossible to find the girl because every man in the fortress was under Song’s command.Finally,Song Jiang suggested going to the farmhouse and confronting the couple.
When the old coulpe saw Song Jiang,they said person who had gone off with their daughter was not the one in front of them.Then Li Kui realized that someone disguised as Song Jiang and seized the girl.Back in the Marsh,Li Kui pleaded guilty.Song Jiang claimed that Li Kui would be forfiven unless he caught the false”Song Jiang”. Li Kui immediately went to search for the bandits.After some adventures,he eventually found the bandits ,killed them,and saved the girl.
